How To Make Your Own Glow In The Dark Paint

How To Make Your Own Glow In The Dark Paint

It is possible to make you own glow in the dark paint at home. It can save you money especially if you only need the glow in the dark paint for a small surface or object. It can also be a fun project for you and your kids to do.

Here are the instructions for how to make your own glow in the dark paint

Glow in the dark powder                                                        Clear paint medium

1. You will need to visit your local craft or home improvement store and buy glow in the dark powder and a clear paint medium. There are different grades of glow in the dark powders that can be purchased. For a brighter luminosity, you will have to by the better grade and pay more money. If this is going to be a small project, buy the lesser grade and save some money. Also, you will want to buy a water based paint medium, so that your kids are not subjected to hazardous paint fumes.

2. Paint the surface of what you want to paint white if you are painting an object or a bedroom. If you are painting fabric, paint the outline of your glow in the dark feature with white fabric paint so it is easier to see.

3. Pour only the amount of paint medium that you need into a container. Next, slowly add in anywhere from 15-25% volume of the glow in the dark powder. The more powder you add, the brighter the paint will glow in the dark. Read the directions on the glow in the dark powder if you are not sure on how to add for certain items. The more glow in the dark powder you add, the rougher the paint will become, so be sure not to add too much.

4. Stir the glow in the dark powder into the paint. You are now ready to paint your object or wall with your glow in the dark paint.

*Take notice that your glow in the dark paint has a very short shelf life and will only last for one to two hours at the most. Make only the amount of glow in the dark paint that you can use or need in that time frame or else you may be wasting the rest of it.
